Getting complete dentures requires several stages. The first step is several detailed consultations
with your dentist. You’ll work out the type of denture you’ll receive, the material it’ll be made
from, and the look it will have when completed.

Next, if necessary, any remaining teeth will be extracted. This is followed by an impression being
taken of your gums, for the dentures to be designed around. In some cases, “immediate dentures” are
possible whereby teeth are removed and dentures are placed on the same day.

These “immediate” dentures are usually intended to be intermediate appliances that allow patients to
still have a mouth full of teeth while they wait for their final restoration.

After all teeth are removed, some time is needed to allow the gum and jaw bone to settle into place.
This is usually when the denture is finally delivered. Minor adjustments are made to ensure it fits
snugly over the gum and won’t fall off easily.

Complete dentures give esthetics and functionality back to patients who are missing most or all their
teeth. If you think you might need dentures, contact our team today to schedule a consultation.
